Dear Readers,
The main topic of this issue is a very personal one for me. I decided to study Speech Therapy because there was a case of stuttering in our family. My diploma thesis was also focused on stuttering. When I had been through all the relevant literature, I learned that it would be safer to have daughters, because they are less likely to be affected by this genetic predisposition. I just didn't want to have a child who suffered from stuttering. I have two sons – and both of them stuttered. One for two weeks, the other for two years.
Only this experience allowed me to understand the essentials. I may have studied the topic thoroughly and yet I still could not help myself or my child, unless I accepted the child as he was. Only the unconditional acceptance of the child by the parent will allow the child one day to accept him- or herself, whether stuttering or not. Several very interesting interviews in this issue deal with self-acceptance. They are no less inspirational than the rest. In addition to the articles devoted to stuttering, we have not forgotten about cluttering – the often overlooked “Cinderella” of the fluency disorder field.
The December issue should deal with alternative and augmentative communication. We are looking forward to your articles; the deadline for manuscript submission is 1.10.2021. We are pleased with the growing interest of professionals in publishing in our Journal. We believe that the indexation of LKL to the DOAJ and ERIH PLUS international databases, which took place in the spring of this year, will continue to strengthen this positive trend.
Yours sincerely,
Zuzana Lebedová,
