Summary
The editorial board of the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine Journal asked fourteen lead clinicians of academic departments of anaesthesia and intensive care medicine in the Czech Republic about their future vision of the specialty. The questionnaire was aimed at these three realms: 1. Defining the key strategic elements for the specialty in the next 5–10 years. 2. Defining immediate aims and priorities and 3. Suggesting three topics for the CSARIM Board to take a stand on. Nine of the fourteen lead clinicians replied and there was considerable variability of opinions. Among the most commonly mentioned priorities were safety of clinical care, involvement in perioperative medicine, multidisciplinary co-operation, ethical questions and postgraduate education in the specialty.
