Summary
Evaluation of the hemocoagulation status is one of the basic examinations in intensive and perioperative care. However, commonly used standard coagulation tests, such as prothrombin time, and activated partial thromboplastin time, do not provide comprehensive information on the hemocoagulation status. On the other hand, rotational thromboelastometry, as a dynamic viscoelastometric method, can examine all phases of secondary hemostasis. Its results thus better correspond to the in vivo situation. In addition, the results of rotational thromboelastometry are available earlier, and the implementation of this method into the perioperative bleeding management algorithm is associated with a reduction in blood loss, consumption of transfusion products and shorter length of stay in hospital. The aim of the following text is to bring the reader an overview of the possibility of using rotational thromboelastometry in pediatric and adult perioperative medicine, including the results of our own studies.
