Summary

Cutaneous metastases of internal malignancies are relatively rare. Their average incidence is 5.3% on the base of several studies and registries. In male, bronchogenic carcinoma represents the most common source of metastases, in female this is the breast carcinoma and the second and the third most common sources of the cutaneous metastases in both sexes are cancer of colon and melanoma, respectively. In case of lung, renal and ovarian cancer, cutaneous metastases often represent the first sign of malignancy. Metastases are mostly localized on the chest. Their appearance is variable, usually one or more prominent subcutaneous nodules are seen. Breast cancer metastases have variable but frequently typical appearance. As long as metastases are suspected on the base of clinical examination and disease course the melanoma should not be omitted in the differential diagnosis.

Key words:
cutaneous metastatic disease – breast cancer – melanoma
