Summary
In the Czech Republic the treatment of children with cleft lip and palate is concentrated in cleft centres and is carried out by a range of specialists. Health care specialties involved with the treatment of clefts include plastic and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, prosthetics, pediatric dentistry, paediatrics, speech – language pathology, otolaryngology, genetics and psychology. Thanks to a high incidence rate (one child with a facial cleft per 600 healthy newborns in the Czech Republic) each pediatrician providing primary treatment meets children with facial cleft defects in the course of his work experience.
Following communication is aimed at the pediatric side of cleft lip and palate patients treatment.
