Summary

Aim of the study: Analysis of basic anthropometric parameters of children of preschool age, assessment of the development of these parameters with respect to gender, age and values from the sixth Czech Nationwide Anthropological Survey (NAS).

Methods: The research group consisted of 602 probands (309 boys and 293 girls) aged 3–6 years. These were individuals without health problems. The measured parameters were body height (BH), body mass (BM) and body mass index (BMI) was calculated from them. The normalization index (Ni) was used to compare the mean values with the values of the 6th NAS.

Results: During the ontogenetic development of BH and BM, significant increases were found in both boys and girls between each year. For girls, the largest increase in BH (7.55 cm) and BM (2.84 kg) was between the fourth and fifth years, for boys BH (7.96 cm) and BM (3.56 kg) between the fifth and sixth year. No significant differences in the development of BH, BM and BMI between boys and girls were found. The mean BH, BM and BMI values of girls were 97.98 ± 4.56 cm, 15.30 ±2.17 kg and 15.88 ±1.43 kg/m2 at the age of 3; 104.58 ±5, 06 cm, 17.08 ±2.56 kg and 15.57 ±1.62 kg/m2 at the age of 4; 112.13 ±5.27 cm, 19.92 ±2.99 kg and 15.78 ±1.52 kg/m2 at the age of 5, and 118.84 ±5.98 cm, 22.41 ±5.02 kg and 15.76 ±2.42 kg/m2 at the age of 6. The mean BH, BM and BMI values of boys were 98.41 ±4.15 cm, 15.73 ±1.76 kg and 16.22 ±1.20 kg/m2 at the age of 3; 104.75 ±4.49 cm, 17.11 ±1.82 kg and 15.58 ±1.07 kg/m2 at the age of 4; 111.95 ±4.96 cm, 19.57 ±3.23 kg and 15.55 ±1, 62 kg/m2 at the age of 5, and 119.91 ±4.80 cm, 23.13 ±3.99 kg and 16.03 ±2.01 kg/m2 at the age of 6. The obtained average values of the monitored anthropometric parameters did not differ in comparison with the average values of the 6th NAS. Ni values were within ±0.75 SD, indicating average feature development.
