Oxygen in ophthalmology
Kyslík v oftalmologii
Inhalace kyslíku při tlaku do 0,3 MPa má významný léčebný účinek zejména u těch patologických stavů, kde v patogenezi převládá hypoxie a ischémie. V očním lékařství se hyperbarický kyslík doporučuje u všech forem tkáňové hypoxie, která je vyvolávajícím činitelem očních chorob, např. diabetická retinopatie, uzávěru centrální sítnicové tepny a dalších postižení oka. K zabránění vedlejších účinků kyslíku, jako myopie, katarakta u starších pacientů vyžadujících dlouhodobou léčbu HBO, je nutné podat antioxidancia a dodržovat doporučený počet expozic.

Overview
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment up to the pressure of 0.3 MPa significantly improves pathologic situations in which hypoxia and ischemia prevail. Hyperbaric oxygen improves visual function in patients with diabetic retinopathy, chronic macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion, occlusion of the central retinal artery. Side effects of oxygen, such as myopia, cataract in elderly patients, where long-lasting hyperbaric oxygen inhalation is necessary, can be prevented by antioxidants and adhering to the recommended number of exposures.
Key words:
hyperbaric oxygen therapy – diabetic retinopathy.
