Summary
A modern approach to multidisciplinary rehabilitation focuses on an early, designed rehabilitation plan aimed at an optimal effect in the shortest time possible that is cost effective. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health -ICF, established by the World Health Assembly (WHA) in 2001, is used to design a rehabilitation plan for people with disabilities. The EU member states have adopted this classification as the basis of their rehabilitation philosophy and policy. However, it is necessary to introduce this classification more widely in the Czech Republic, and for it to be followed in practice. Rehabilitation is a mutually connected and coordinated by the social system. It helps to engage people with disabilities following injuries, illnesses or with congenital diseases, with a broad variety of normal social activities as soon as possible. The aim of this policy is to guarantee that people with disabilities will have a full and active social life, and to help integrate them to lead independent lives. Medical rehabilitation must be interlinked with the tools of social rehabilitation, social services (Act no.108/2006 Coll., Social services and others social laws), educational rehabilitation (law concerning elementary, secondary and higher education) and prevocational and vocational rehabilitation (employment law).
