Correlation of alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking

Summary

The consumption of alcoholic beverages is a health problem and also a social problem pertaining to the whole society. Whereas in the past, overconsumption of alcohol was the domain of males, at present attention has shifted to females and adolescents, whose consumption of alcohol is on the rise. This, being at the root of many illnesses, is a major health-threatening factor. Furthermore, alcohol consumption is connected to other health-damaging behaviours (mainly smoking), which, in consequence, lead to even more serious illnesses.
