Summary

The increasing number of elderly patients undergoing dialysis brings about certain specifics. This article is focused on the main problems we are facing at dialysis centres, treating patients with chronic renal failure. 24% of haemodialysis patients are older than 75 years. Besides the routine assessment of dialysis treatment, the patients‘ functional status as well as other specific conditions of elderly patients – such as cardiovascular status or cognitive dysfunctions - must be taken into account when deciding about the therapeutic method to be used. Modifications of dialysis therapy as well as the therapeutic outcome in dialysis patients are also discussed.

Keywords:
