Are Seniors with Psychiatric Morbidities More Difficult to Treat?

Summary

The aim of the paper is to evaluate the development of selected indicators describing inpatient psychogeriatric care provided in Mental hospital in Kromeriz in years 2000–2013. There is an increase in amount of patients over the age of 65 admitted to psychogeriatric wards at the Mental hospital in Kromeriz in years 2000–2013, including increase in amount of patients admitted due to dementia of various types. Furthermore, patients become more and more ill over time, as it is expressed by an indicator called “nursing category of patients“. On the contrary, mortality rate decreases over time in our patients. In conclusion there is a significant increase of seniors requiring inpatient psychogeriatric services, these seniors are more difficult patients both for medical and nursing care.
