Summary

Objective:
In our research we undertook to verify the influence of cognitive training by applying the COGNIPLUS method in seniors with a mild cognitive impairment

Sample:
Our research sample was composed of 32 seniors with an average age of 68.25 years, with a mild cognitive impairment.

Intervention:
All participants underwent individual training of cognitive functions by COGNIPLUS method at an outpatient clinic. The total number of training sessions of each patient was 20, two training sessions per week.

Methods:
Psychological examinations of personality structure, cognitive and psycho-motoric abilities were performed by a compiled neuropsychological battery of standardized tests and at the same time functional status as well as everyday activities and quality of life were evaluated.

Results:
By statistical comparison of the results of neuropsychological battery tests before and after the cognitive training a significant improvement (p<0.01 – 0.0001) in cognitive tests and psychomotor abilities was observed.

In the observed mental conditions (anxiety, depression), in everyday activities and life quality before and after the cognitive training, we have recorded a significant improvement (p<0.0001). Higher score on clinical scales of hypochondria, depression and psychasthenia significantly impacts the performance in cognitive and psycho-motor performance tests (r=-0.46 -0.52).

Conclusion:
Improvement of cognitive functions influence mastering daily life activities, well-being and quality of life in elderly.
