Summary
PEG isthe most preferred mini- -invasive method for keeping the nutrition in patients whose natural way failed. It is more comfortable for patient than any other ways of tube feeding, for example nasogastrico nasojejunal tube (NGT, NJT). Using NGT is not tolerated so well, because itirritates mucosa, make spressure damages and bleeding ulcers, smaller diameter is logged more frequently. The principle of PEG is an insertion of the gastrosto- mic tube into stomach. The basic condition of succesful insertion and function of PEG is passable gastrointestinal tract. This article summarize sour experience with geriatric patients with PEG in the Centre of long-term care in Motol University Hospital. Mentioned cases compare useful PEG utilization to question ablecase, where we should prefer the ethical principles and patients comfort in final stages of disease without stressful invasive procedures.
