Summary

Lingua geographica (migratory glossitis) is a nonspecific disease of unknown etiology, sometimes of familial occurrence (2). Prevalence of the disease is between 1 and 1.8%, a higher prevalence is observed in children from Japan (8%) and Israel (14%). Prevalence decreases with increasing age especially after thirty years of life, the incidence in nonsmokers is substantially lower than in smokers (5). Atopic or allergic diseases, on the other hand, significantly increase the probability of occurrence of migratory glossitis (7, 8).
