Summary
Inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is relatively rare benign tumor. The histological and biological characteristics (local aggressiveness and synchronous or metachronous coincidence with squamous cell carcinoma) are generally known. Surgical treatment is considered as the basic method of treatment of inverted papilloma. The current literature shows that the endoscopic approach can achieve at least the same results as the surgery from the external approach. Sixteen patients who have undergone surgery for inverted sinonasal papilloma are presented and the issue of a standardization of diagnosis and surgical treatment of this tumor with regard to current knowledge is discussed.
