Summary
Objective:
To give summary studies´ results on influence of hormone replacement therapy on risk of colorectal carcinoma.
Methods:
Literary review.
Results:
The position of hormone replacement therapy in therapy of acute climacteric syndrome, prevention and therapy of urogenital atrophy is unchanged by results of recent studies. Hormone replacement therapy still stands in important position in prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis after calcium and vitamin D supplementation. Prevention of ischaemic heart disease is abandoned. Other indications connected with long term therapy are in contradiction with risks of hormone therapy.
Benefit of hormone therapy in relative risk of colorectal carcinoma is proportional to length of it. Protection against colorectal carcinoma and colon adenoma is not taken for indication of hormone therapy. It could be regarded as positive side effect of individual useful long term hormone therapy. Personal history of colorectal carcinoma is not contraindication for hormone therapy.
Key words:
colorectal carcinoma, hormone replacement therapy
