Future maternity in women experiencing anticancer therapy in childhood

Summary

In industrialized countries, cancer incidence in childhood has increased and the number of cancer surviving patients has grown rapidly during past 3 decades. It is estimated that in 2010 every 250th person aged 2045 will be a former oncological patient. The aggression of anticancer therapy can lead to not only acute but also late consequences. It is therefore appropriate to prepare monitoring programs for former child oncological patients, achieving adulthood. Gynaecologists should play an important role in this follow up. The aim of this study is to give notice on late adverse consequences of anticancer therapy, important for the fertility of women, which underwent a successful anticancer treatment in childhood. The treat to future fertility, caused by anticancer therapy, significantly affects the woman’s life (fig. 1) [15].
