Summary
Aim of the study:
To compare sperm count and sperm motility before and after tadalafil treatment.
Material and methods:
We compared data from 15 males with low sperm counts due to erectile dysfunction who were indicated for therapy with tadalafil. All sperm samples were assessed according to WHO criteria. Erectile function was assessed with International Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire.
Results:
Twelve men aged 20 to 40 years (mean 32 years) completed the therapy. Before the treatment, the mean (±SD) IIEF score was 6.75 ± 1.36, sperm count was 8.08 ± 4.1 mil/ml and motility 10.5 ± 9.8%. After 3 months of treatment, IIEF score increased to 22.42 ± 2.87 (p < 0.01, Wilcoxon), sperm count increased to 15.83 ± 6.35 mil/ml (p < 0.01) and motility to 18.5 ± 15.0% (p < 0.01).
Conclusion:
The mean sperm count value increased after tadalafil therapy. It is assumed that the change in sperm count reflects the effect of tadalafil treatment. We have also observed an increase in progressive sperm motility after tadalafil treatment.
Key words:
tadalafil – erectile dysfunction – sperm count – sperm motility
