Summary
Patients with advanced gynecological malignancy frequently suffer from serious complications caused by the tumour infiltration and pressure on the surrounding pelvic tissues and organs, by the condition of the lymphatic vessels and later also by complications associated with distant metastases. Pain, especially that of chronic nature, is among the most frequent symptoms. Every physician of any specialization should be familiar with the evaluation and basic treatment of pain. The paper discusses the practical principles of therapy and possibilities of reducing the pain related to gynecological malignancies. Special attention is also given to the palliative radiotherapy.
Key words:
pain – gynaecological cancer – analgetics – palliative radiotherapy
