Summary

Development of automotive industry has caused increased amount of drivers and co-drivers among pregnant women in daily transport. Nowadays, women conduct the car alone more frequently than ever, moreover, in the higher stages of pregnancy. Unfortunately, car accidents are the leading cause of severe polytrauma in pregnant women - 70 % of all serious injuries in pregnancy is caused by traffic accidents. The aim of article is to highlight the causes and nature of car accidents in pregnancy with theirs management and solutions, to remind on tipical cases from the clinical practice of The Trauma Center at Hospital Brno, and to emphasize the need for preventive measures which should be introduce as early as from the time of pregnancy counseling visit.
