Summary
The contribution summarizes the function of ankle joint ligaments and their influence on stability and kinesiology of lower extremity. Ankle injuries belong to most frequent injuries of locomotor apparatus. Ligaments play an important role in stabilization of the joints of leg and ankle. Possible injuries of these ligaments result in endangered stability in the area as well as in more distant areas with functional connections which are not limited to ankle joint only. The most often injured system of ankle is the lateral system, i.e. the lateral ligament. Considering the degree of injury, instability of ankle joint may develop, which significantly influences quality of life of the affected individuals.
Key words:
joint ligaments, locomotor apparatus, lateral instability of joint
