Summary
Background: Although golf appears to be less risky than other sports, golfers suffer from many injuries. Due to the fact that the number of active golfers is rising, it brings to attention the resolution of golfer’s injuries. This work not only maps the most common injuries in the upper limbs of professional and amateur golfers, but also describes treatment and preventive measures.
Method: The work is conceived as a review, which was based on the processing of available relevant resources. The results are divided into three areas: shoulder girdle, elbow, wrist and hand. Foreign studies were obtained from the databases PubMed and SPORTDiscus.
Conclusion: The most common diagnoses of the shoulder are impingement syndrom, instability of the shoulder, acromioclavicular joint disorder and arthritis. The most common diagnose in the elbow is epicondylitis and in the wrists and hands are very common fracturing, subluxation of the joints and ligament overload. Professional golfers’ injuries mainly occur in the area of the wrist and hand whereas amateurs’ injuries occur in the area of the elbow. The prevention of these injuries includes not only the use of appropriate techniques when training and regular warm-up before training, but also the appropriate equipment of the player. Injury rehabilitation and long-term rehabilitation care of sport injuries are important as well.
