Summary

In this article, we discuss the evolving role of sacral neuromodulation (SNM) in the treatment of urologic conditions, including overactive bladder (OAB) and non-obstructive urinary retention (NOUR). We will review the pathophysiology of voiding dysfunction along with the current clinical indications and efficacy of SNM. We also summarize the surgical anatomy and technique, advances in treatment delivery, proper patient selection, and weigh the alternative treatment of OAB with intravesical botulinum toxin (BoNT) therapy.

Key words:
neuromodulation, urge incontinence, overactive bladder
