Summary

Operation of urgent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was launched in the University Hospital Motol in 1993 as part of urgent endoscopic services. The procedure is performed for catchment area patients and for patients from surrounding hospitals. Between the years 1993 and 2012, 4,487 urgent procedures were performed in our department. The main indications were acute cholangitis, acute biliary pancreatitis and biliary tract injuries. Cannulation success achieved in our department was 93.5%, the extraction success was 83%. Given the high number of urgent ERCP procedures, the endoscopic centre in the University Hospital Motol is a highly specialised department, offering experienced, knowledgeable staff and modern technical facilities.

Key words:
endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography –  cholangitis –  pancreatitis

The authors declare they have no potential conflicts of interest concerning drugs, products, or services used in the study.

The Editorial Board declares that the manuscript met the ICMJE „uniform requirements“ for biomedical papers.
