Summary
Objective: To verify the use of home-based CalproSmart fecal calprotectin (FC) test in the telemonitoring of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Design: Retrospective.
Settings: Clinical Centre ISCARE I.V.F. and 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, Jankovcova 1569/2c, 170 00 Prague 7, Czech Republic.
Material and Methods: Hundred FC values were compared: first data set was measured by patients using the home-based CalproSmart test based on laminar flow analysis (LFA), and the second data set was obtained by the standard fluoroimmunoassay (FIA) in a clinical laboratory.
Results: Spearman’s correlation coefficient r = 0.895 (p = 0.0004) and weighted Cohen’s kappa 0.835 indicates the good correlation of two data sets measured by different measurement systems.
Conclusion: Home-based FC test CalproSmart is well-suited to qualitative FC analysis in telemonitoring of patients with IBD. It cannot replace standard laboratory FC measurements, but this property is not even required by home-based kit.
