Summary
Aim: The aim of the research was to create and verify the psychometric features of the Czech version of the The Needs and Provision Complexity Scale (NPCS). Furthermore, the aim was to determine the unmet needs for the care for patients with progressive neurological disease.
Patients and methods: The research sample included 334 patients with progressive neurological disease. The scale was translated based on standard methods. To assess the psychometric features, the exploratory factor analysis was used together with retest reliability and correlation analysis.
Results: Based on the exploratory factor analysis, the two-factor model was confirmed – 1. needs of health- and personal-care; and 2. needs of social care and support (χ2 = 1,856.262; P < 0.001). The reliability of the scale (a = 0.684–0.712) and retest reliability (r = 0.707–0.953) were evaluated as satisfactory. Some unmet needs were identified in patients, most often in rehabilitation (87%).
Conclusion: The Czech version of the NPCS scale may be used both in clinical practice as well as in research.
