Summary
At present at our disposal there are more than one hundred psychopharmaceuticals with more or less specific effects on the symptoms of individual mental disorders. Despite new therapeutic and diagnostic possibilities there are still many patients whose response to treatment with psychopharmaceuticals is not satisfactory. Introduction of a routine therapeutic monitoring of some psychopharmaceuticals could help to individualize and optimize the treatment according to the needs of a individual patient. This paper describes the analytical methods which enable their determination with regard to antidepressants and antipsychotics. At present the principal techniques for the determination of the levels of psychopharmaceuticals are gas and liquid chromatography. The principal biological material for the determination is serum or plasma. Samples for analysis are prepared most frequently by means of extraction from a liquid to a liquid or extraction on a solid phase. The published literature presents the methods making it possible to determine one or several psychopharmaceuticals simultaneously, including their possible active metabolites.
Key words:
psychopharmaceuticals – therapeutic drug monitoring – high-performance liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry
