Summary
From 2013 to 2015, specialist medical societies in the Czech Republic gradually adopted unified diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), based on the Hyperglycemia and Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes (HAPO) study and the recommendations of the International Association of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) of 2010. The diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of GDM require the coordinated cooperation of gynecologists/obstetricians, diabetologists, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians/neonatologists. This work is therefore a summary of recommended procedures from individual specialist societies. This interdisciplinary consensus includes GDM screening, the monitoring and treatment of GDM during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, and subsequent follow-up care for the mother. Recommendations for the care of newborns of mothers with GDM are also included.
