Summary

Therapeutic education is fundamental in chronic patient care in dermatology. It represents an individualized complement to a basic standard care counselling. Individualized education is a gradual interactive process that can improve patient´s knowledge, satisfaction, adherence and results of therapy and the self-management of the disease that improves its course. The effectiveness of education can be optimized by using educational methods based on pedagogy and psychology. Verbal education is elementary, to strengthen it – leaflets and brochures, visual aids, audio-visual material and guaranted internet are also suitable. Verbal and written methods of education are dealt in details, including recommendation for practice.
