Summary
A short frenulum is an inborn abnormity, which may result in functional difficulties. This condition should be differentiated from sc. ankyloglosia. The diagnostics of short frenulum is performed on the basis of clinical examination and complaints of the patient. The typical symptomatology includes difficult articulation of certain phones and impossibility to stick out the tongue. Opinions about the therapy differ. A close collaboration with a logopedic expert is necessary. Frenulotomy and frenulectomy belong to most frequent surgical interventions associated with this diagnosis.
