Summary
Recurrent respiratory tract infections (RRTIs) represent an important problem in the daily practice of each pediatrician. In general, only few of them suffer from some serious disease leading to the increased respiratory morbidity. Usually, RRTIs occur as the outcome of the immune system immaturity and due to the building of the immunological memory. Besides the adequate and appropriate treatment of each episode of respiratory infection and sufficient convalescence, the treatment of choice is the immunomodulation. Today, there is a broad spectrum of different natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic preparations, which can be successfully used for the support of the maturation processes of the immune system and for the prevention of respiratory infections.
