Summary
Diagnostics of acute appendicitis isn’t always easy task. Although ultrasound imaging is admittedly advantageous and high-sensitive examination, clinical signs and experience of a surgeon remain the leading factor when making a decision about the therapeutic plan.
We present a group of 780 children hospitalized with suspicion of acute inflammation of appendix who have undergone ultrasound examination. From this group 307 patients were operated and 473 children were treated conservatively. We are discussing reasons of false positive and false negative findings with correlation or discrepancy of the ultrasound examination with both its advantages and difficulties.
