Summary

This article discusses the relationship between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and the medical assessment service (MAS). It discusses the general competence of the MAS and its co-operation with general practitioners and gastroenterologists. It also describes the process of assessment in general, and assessment of IBD patients in accordance with valid regulations. The statistical data identify the proportion of patients assessed by the MAS who had gastroenterologic disease, and the proportion of patients from that group that had IBD. The data also reflect changes in the number of disability requests between 2015 and 2017, and the results of IBD patient assessments, including gender and age. The authors also discuss the costs of disability associated with IBD.
