Sigmoid volvulus – untypical condition in childhood

Summary
Sigmoid volvulus is a form of intestinal obstruction typical for elderly people. This condition is rare in childhood. An elongated sigmoid can rotate around a mesenterium with venous and arterial obstruction of affected area with acute dilatation of the sigmoid colon. Incorrect and delayed diagnosis can lead to necrosis of the bowel, with severe complications and risk to health.
