Cancer Occupational Diseases in the Czech Republic

Summary

The authors have undertaken the analysis of all cases of occupational malignant neoplasms which were reported to the National Register of Occupational Diseases in the Czech Republic between 1991 and 2006. 945 cases of tumour diseases were acknowledged as occupational diseases, the trend was decreasing, males were affected in 96%. The mean age of persons at diagnosing malignant neoplams was 67 years. The occupational malignant neoplasm of bronchi and lungs (86%) prevailed, followed by the diffuse mesotelioma of pleura and peritoneum, neoplasms of an urinary bladder and skin. Ionizing radiation dominated as the cause of malignant neoplasms in 89%. 76% persons affected by malignant neoplasms worked at mining and manufacturing uranium ore.
