Summary
Cisplatin is chemotherapy agent, which is used in various types of neoplasia. On of undesirable effects of cisplatin therapy is ototoxicity. The authors followed a group of child patients with the diagnosis of neuroblastoma and osteosarcoma. These two groups differ in diagnosis, mean age of the patients and the cumulative cisplatin dose. All patients were examined by audiology at the beginning and at the end of chemotherapy and a part of the patients also one year after the end of treatment. Age deteriorated during chemotherapy in both groups. The patients with neuroblastoma suffered from a more pronounced deterioration of hearing. Hearing proved to be worse even several years after the end of chemotherapy.
