Summary
Review of literature about acute appendicitis, the most common inflamatory abdominal emergency, is presented. Current knowledge on pathogenesis, clinical features, investigation and general management are discussed. A benefit of antimicrobial prophylaxis and use of diagnostic laparoscopy in childbearing age women are stressed.
