Summary
Background:
Amyand’s hernia is a rare condition in which the appendix is positioned in the inguinal hernia sac. Acute appendicitis in this situation is a extremely rare and only a few reports are found in the literature.
Methods:
Case report
Results and conclusion:
We report a case of acute gangrenous appendicitis with the perforation at the tip of the appendix, which was incarcerated in the right groin. We conduct a review of the literature, emphasizing possible causes and suggesting a predisposing factor for the condition.
Key words:
Amyand’s hernia – gangrenous appendicitis – inguinal hernia
