Summary
Spontaneous pneumomediastinum, also known as Hamman’s or Macklin’s syndrome, is a disease characterized by low incidence, which affects predominantly the male population, and whose cause is unknown. It is an acute event that shows rapid recovery of clinical symptoms and radiological findings. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of chest pain, and also differentiated from the much more serious secondary pneumomediastinum. The authors present 2 cases of this disease seen at their department during 1 week.
