Summary
Problems of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) perinatal infection from the neonatologist´s perspective are presented. GBS infection may lead even to death of the newborn. Basic information on the pathogen, risk factors, clinical course and current diagnostic approaches is provided. The screening system that is currently in use and prophylactic procedures are described as well.
