Correlation between ultrasound, hysteroscopy and histological picture of endometrial polyps

Summary

Objective:
The aim of the study was to evaluate the predictive value of ultrasound to give regular in the diagnosis of endomet-rial polyp.

Patients and Methods:
Hysteroscopy was performed in a group of 58 women with ultrasound signs of polyp.

Results:
Hysteroscopy confirmed the ultrasound findings in 74% of women. Cancer was diagnosed in 6.8% of the sample, thus emphasising the importance of hysteroscopy and histology of polyps.

Conclusion:
The minimally invasive hysteroscopy method is, by far and away, the most precise means of verifying the diagnosis of polyps of the endometrium with possible histological analysis of the sample. Our results support the trend for expanding hysteroscopy into outpatient care.
