Probiotics are live non-pathogenic microorganisms with a beneficial effect on human health. Gynaecology predominantly utilizes various Lactobacillus strains, effective in the prevention and treatment of vaginitis (bacterial vaginosis and vaginal candidiasis). They may be administered orally or vaginally as capsules or tampons.
