Summary

Aim: The aim of this work is to assess a effectiveness  of treatment at the rehabilitation inpatient departement in the subacute period after the primary total hip replacement (TEP) and to compare the results of men and women.

Patients and methods: We evaluated a group of 456 patients treated at the Rehabilitation Clinic of the Teaching Hospital in Hradec Králové in the years 2011 to 2015 after the primary implantation of the hip arthroplasty. Functional Independence Measure (FIM) was used to monitor the level of independence.

Results: For men was the mean total FIM on admission 104.8, at discharge 112.7  (p = 0.0000), for women was on admission 102.5 and 111.9 at discharge (p = 0.0000). After the treatment the level of men‘s mobility capability increased in 4 items from the dependence level to the requires supervision and one to the complete independence level. In women, mobility capability increased in three items from   dependence to the requires supervision. In one parameter they improved to a level of complete independence. In women, the only parameter that remained at the level of dependence before dismissal was walking up the stairs, but there was a positive change in the score from 2.7 to 4.9.

Conclusion: During the treatment at the Rehabilitation Department in the subacute phase of the treatment of patients after the TEP, we showed a significant improvement in functional abilities as evaluated by the FIM test. The results show a effectivity of rehabilitation treatment. Worse treatment results in women in the study group are in accordance with the literature and points the need to take this fact into account when planning rehabilitation treatment.
