Summary
Object:
Radial neck fractures in children present l0 percent of traumatic elbow lesions and l percent of all fractures in childhood. The treatment is influenced by initial axial angulation and operative treatment is advised for fractures with angulation more than 60 degrees. The aim of the study was to assess late functional outcomes of operatively treated radial neck fractures.
Method:
Retrospective series of 23 patients with radial neck fractures were assessed with using of Judet radial neck fracture classification scheme. Authors evaluated the quality of reduction according to postoperative X-ray films and functional outcome according to Métaizeau rating system at 3-6 years follow up.
Results:
CIMP was used in 17 of 25 fractures treatment. Among 15 followed up fractures 11 (73 %) had excellent, 3 (20 %) good, and 1 (7 %) bad functional results with average postoperative residual fracture dislocation 14,35 grades.
Discussion and conclusion:
The method of intramedullary reduction and fixation seems safe and effective in treatment of radial neck fractures.
Key words:
radial neck fractures, children, miniinvasive intramedullary pining.
