Summary
In recent years a shift can be observed in treatment of distal radius fractures, from conservative methods towards surgery. The numbers of open repositions and osteosyntheses have been increasing. On the market there is a broad range of implants made by various manufacturers. The purpose of this study has been to assess our first experience with Hand Innovation´s fixedangle DVR plates on a group of patients operated on at the department of traumatology in the Teaching Hospital in Olomouc due to distal radius fractures. From March to December 2008 we monitored 30 patients for at least 16 weeks following the osteosyntheses. We evaluated early functional results of the surgery treatment after completed rehabilitation. Full movement was recovered after rehabilitation in 16 patients, 12 patients experienced a slight limitation of movement, 2 patients had a medium limitation of the wrist function and 2 patients ended up with a significant limitation of the wrist function. Based on our first experience the fixed-angle DVR™ plates may be particularly advantageous for multifragment intraarticular distal radius fractures of type C under the AO classification.
KEY WORDS:
