Summary

Urinary incontinence has a major impact on the quality of life and has a great influence on physical, psychological and social welfare of patients. Decreased incidence of urinary incontinence, which is observed in male and female patients treated with injectables, improves dramatically their quality of life. All patients can resume their regular activities relatively soon after the surgery; the side effects are considerably milder in comparison with other surgical methods. Female patients with sfincteric insufficiency and/or urethral hypermobility or elderly patients with poor overall health are ideal candidates for this kind of therapy. In view of low morbidity, patients can undergo the procedure repeatedly or can have another type of surgery in case of failure. The differences between the materials used today are small and the choice of a specific injectable depends on the surgeon's preference and on the availability and price of the injectable.
