Summary

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) is currently considered the surgical approach of choice for complicated stone burdens. Advances in both the technical aspects of the PNL procedure as well as in the equipment utilized by the surgeon have resulted in improved patient outcomes. This manuscript provides a summary of the current PNL technique with a review of recent procedural developments.

Key words:
percutaneous nephrolithotomy, intracorporeal lithotripter, nephrolithiasis
