Summary

The commonly used transcortical approach to intrinsic brain lesions located in the dorsal part of the lateral ventricles, thalamus and the parasplenial region often leads to visual disturbances caused by disruption of a part of the geniculo-calcarine tract. Based on an anatomical laboratory study, current literature and three case reports, we describe a posterior interhemispheric precuneal approach. This approach is advantageous mainly due to its predominantly extracerebral route.
