Summary
Prevalence of depressive disorders in multiple sclerosis patients is high and is not correlated with severity of multiple sclerosis symptoms. Depressive symptoms are probably associated with the immunosuppressive treatment used. Depression remains usually unrecognized and untreated. We present a review of antidepressants available for the treatment of depression in multiple sclerosis patients and we also present an interesting case report in which many questions were raised that had to be answered by neurologist and psychiatrist in cooperation.
Key words:
multiple sclerosis, depression, antidepressants, immunosuppressants.
