Overview, statistics.
Setting:
Private midwife, Prague.
Methods:
Overview of statistical data.
Results:
Planned home birth assisted by an experienced provider of health care under continuous risk evaluation is a secure alternative to childbirth in hospitals. Moreover, home births show less interventions, use of medicaments and birth injuries.
Conclusion:
The Czech laws and regulations provide no legal framework for delivering health care by midwives during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Hence, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms is infringed, since women are denied rights to choose the place, procedure and provider of care.
